Top Ten Sites In San Francisco

Sunday, April 26, 2009 12:24 1 Comment

Since I’ve lived here in San Francisco for over 15 years I know that the below list are the sites that are most popular with visitors and tourists that come to San Francisco. Unfortunately this is not my favorite list but it’s definitely the places that folks go to over and over again. The best time to come to San Francisco is not really the Summer months but more later on in the Summer. I’d say late August and on if you want warmth. Although San Francisco does not really get that hot but lately we’ve been having some heat spells here and it’s not feeling great.

If you are a photographer and you like your photos to look bright and sunny then choose to not come in May, June or July as those months it tends to get foggy, cloudy and over cast. I’d say just before May is good like February, March and April and late August, September, October, November and December. You’ll get the most sun in those months. Of course it’s not going to be warm but you can’t have it all can you? At least you’ll have beautifully exposed pics. Just bring warmer clothes of course.

So here’s the list and any first time visitor should check these sites out. Photos below as well.

Enjoy!

Golden Gate Bridge
Bay Bridge
Alcatraz
City Hall Building
Painted Ladies – Alamo Square
Grace Cathedral
Fisherman’s Wharf
Pier 39
AT&T Park
Union Square

Well my first Top Ten Things To Do In San Francisco list was a success (I think) and I had several comments and suggestions from folks to include others so I decided to put together a part 2. In the future I’ll have several more of these Top Ten Lists as well so keep coming back to SFPhotorama for more!

The items on this list and the last one (Top Ten Things To Do In San Francisco) are some of the things I enjoy doing in San Francisco and I recommend it to others as well. These are pretty nice shots looking onto the Transamerica building and beyond including Coit Tower in some of the shots and Alcatraz Island and beyond. If you look closely you can even see North Beach well not very well but you can catch a bit of it in one or two of the shots.

I shot these from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the Financial District a couple of months back and it definitely deserves another round of photos because their windows were quite dirty. Perhaps some late evening/dusk shots right before the sun goes in all the way would turn out nice? Since we’re now having our real summer in San Francisco I might have to go back and try these then and hopefully the windows are cleaner. These are nice to start with though … don’t you think?

A bike ride up McDowell Avenue and you come to great views of the bay and Fort Mason etc. This I thought I’d capture of Alcatraz Island. It’s a pretty good shot of Alcatraz – basic but good.
