Bahn Thai BBQ Food

Yum, yum yum!!! I loved the food at Bahn Thai BBQ and I especially loved the Pad Thai and the Beef Short Rib dish that you see below. I would definitely order these two items again and try something new as well. Just remember they don't take credit cards so go there with cash!

Bahn Thai BBQ & Noodles Interior

Here are some great shots of the interior of Bahn Thai BBQ ... from what I've read online it used to be an old diner that's why they have the art deco flavored design and the counter where I'm sure in the old days you could have sat and ordered milkshakes and fries and other diner items. I like some of the detailing in this restaurant and the coloring is quite nice as well. When I went it was quite dead ... then it got busy - just a little though. Hopefully it stays busy enough that they survive because I did like it here and would definitely go back!

Bahn Thai BBQ & Noodles Cook Cooking 2

Bahn Thai BBQ & Noodles Cook Cooking

I enjoyed dinner at Bahn Thai BBQ & Noodles. It's located at 639 Post St in Nob Hill neighborhood. Very fresh food perfectly prepared. I shot this video of the cook cooking. I like the dark silhouette effect here. I've included a map her in case you want to go. The only bad thing about this place is they don't take credit cards so bring your cash baby!

House of Nan King Line

When there's a line at House Of Nan King then you can always go to Chef Gia's. In fact you can just go to Chef Gia's not only if there's a line at House Of Nan King. Because House Of Nan King is a bit overrated. Try Chef Gia's I'm sure you'll like it.

Cheap Chinese Food That's Good! - Chef Gia's Chinatown

Chef Gia's is actually good Chinese food! Most people go to House Of Nan King but because House Of Nan King gets so crowded by tourists and locals that some folks just don't want to wait in line to eat since they are really hungry they decide to slip right into Chef Gia's right next door. Well I think it's good that they do that because the food is actually really good if not better than House Of Nan King. It's actually great that Chef Gia's is right next door and convenient for the hungry folks.

I ordered the pork fried rice, the honey chili eggplant and string beans and yam (all pictured above) which came to under 20 dollars for all three items. That's really cheap for good Chinese food. And it's so much food that you have tons of it left over. Now if you're visiting San Francisco and you've been walking all over the city then you might eat your whole dinner but if you live here and you have somewhat of an appetite then you're most likely not going to finish everything and have half of it left over. If you haven't visited Chef Gia's then do so ... it's really good!

The Maxwell Hotel Transforming Into The Frank Hotel

The Maxwell Hotel is changing and it's morphing into the Hotel Frank come this fall. I don't know much about The Maxwell Hotel but was eating breakfast recently at Max's On The Square which is right below The Maxwell and some signs that they are renovating and changing to the Hotel Frank. So figured it was worth snapping some pics to have because of the change.

The Maxwell Hotel/Hotel Frank are part of the Personality Hotels Chain. All links below check out and explore!

Schroeder's Restaurant 240 Front Street At Sacramento

It's been a while since I've been to Schroeder's Restaurant in Financial District but I still love to photograph it. I love their beautiful neon sign so this time I've decided to photograph it. The food I hear is pretty good German food ... I thought so when I ate there but I really can't remember as it was probably 1999 almost 10 years ago. Gotta go back and try it out again.

It's a pretty old place as it's been around since 1893 - the oldest and largest German Restaurant on the West Coast.

Check out their web site below and read about their history ...

Grubstake Open Til 4 Am

I haven't been to Grubstake for quite some time ... It's been a while - the late 90's I believe but was passing by recently and I thought I'd snap a couple of pics. It still looks the same. The first time I went there was when I first moved here around 93/94 and it was after a long night of clubbing and you know they are open until 4am so it was perfect to stop for a burger and fries. Yum.

Check out their Web site as it's got their history. Apparently there was another location where the Parc 55 Hotel is now. Also there's a portion of the Grubstake that was used as a real rail car that went between Berkeley, Oakland and across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco. Pretty amazing history. I think it's time to go back and revisit the Grubstake!

Check out their website for some info and their menu!

Swan Oyster Depot Seafood Salad - Polk Street, San Francisco

Swan Oyster Depot is one pretty fabulous place. It's not for everybody as it's this tiny little hole in the wall bar counter seating kind of place that serves fresh, very fresh seafood food items with beer from the tap. I usually order the combination seafood salad with a glass of Anchor Steam beer - the perfect San Francisco combo!

You think?

The salad include fresh crab, baby shrimp and big shrimp. Totally yummy! With some hard sourdough bread. Perfect!
They also have a really good clam chowder and I've also seen shrimp cocktails which I'm sure are pretty fab! But that combo salad is what I go back for all the time.

From downtown you can take a cable car on the California line and just get off at Polk and California and it's just steps away to Swan Oyster Depot. In fact you can make a night of it ... right after your food from Swan Oyster Depot you can grab yourself some yummy chocolate from See's Candies and walk over to the Lumiere to watch a great indie or foreign film. Sounds like a great plan for moi!

and it looks quite new but it definitely doesn't look like anything hip (like the W Hotel) but worth checking out.

Espetus Churrascaria Brazilian Steak House - Market Street, San Francisco

Espetus is at 1686 Market Street right around the corner from Zuni Cafe. It's lots and lots of meat delivered and carved right at your table so go there very hungry as you'll end up leaving FULL! It's a fun experience and I don't recommend it often but definitely worth trying.

AllStars Donuts - Soma, San Francisco

The customer service is pretty bad here and their really unfriendly as they sure as heck don't make you feel welcome that's for sure but they do have pretty good Apple Fritters which is the only thing I get from here. I go there probably every other week for one Apple Fritter but would never be caught there otherwise as I don't really care for the folks that run it.

John's Grill 63 Ellis Street - San Francisco

I love how the light from the neon sign turned out here. It's beautifully illuminated the whole area around it. I've never been to John's Grill but have always wanted to go. It's a pretty old place. I like how the sign reads 63 cocktails. I've always joked about that.

John's Grill has been around since 1908 and they claim that it's the home of the Maltese Falcon.

Les Amis - Financial District, San Franisco

I love the look of this restaurant. It's so beautiful ... it looks like a building you'd see in Paris. I like the way I've captured it here. I like the lighting with the big red doors. Very dramatic.

Les Amis means the friends in French and even though I've never been to Les Amis and dined there it looks quite friendly. It's at 568 Sacramento Street near Montgomery. It's also very close to Jeanty At Jacks. Another French restaurant and one of my favorites.

I think it's time to try out Les Amis and soon might be the time.

Waterbar - Embarcadero, City Of San Francisco

Stopped by at the new Waterbar in the city of San Francisco a couple of days back for a cocktail. I was not really impressed with the restaurant ... it looked kind of typical and not really high end. The bartender that was taking orders from us was not really that friendly. She was a bit snooty actually and I really didn't care for her. Everyone else around her was quite nice.

In fact we received an appetizer complements of the kitchen and she was like they already paid (I can tell because she was not really into us receiving the food). Oh well if I do go back, which I'm not impressed to go back I'll make sure not sit where she is bartending. Don't recommend it that much but do for the ambiance and being on the water if you know what I mean. Although the appetizer we received was quite TASTY!

So? Would you go back?
