Adah Bakalinsky Stairway Walks San Francisco Author Interview
One of my favorite things about San Francisco is all the stairways that are in the city. So on weekends when I don’t have much happening I love to go to one of them and do it. Start from the very beginning and go all the way to the end. They are quite fun and some actually give you quite a workout. I learned about the stairways and the walks from the book Stairway Walks in San Franciscowritten (the title of the book is a link to purchase the book on Amazon) by the fabulous Adah Bakalinsky which I had the pleasure of interviewing and videotaping which you can watch here.
So I had the rare opportunity to interview Adah Bakalinsky for San Francisco Photos (www.SFPhotorama.com) recently. Here Adah Bakalisnky talks about what got her interested in the stairway walks and eventually got her into writing the book and getting it first published. This is a rare online video that should be watched by everyone that has an interest in the stairway walks of San Francisco.
For anyone visiting San Francisco and has some time to do walking tours then this book is definitely worth owning and using while here as the stairway walks are really fun. There are over 600 stairways in San Francisco and there are 29 different stairway walks in the book. So I highly recommend the book and the walks!
Check out the interview with Adah Bakalinksky and let me know what you think. Thank you.

Good morning, as a native San franciscan I find the SF stairway walks a hidden tour gem.
Being rasied in Eureka Valley in the 50′s and 60′s I was aware of the neighborhood stairs in the area but had no idea there were 26 other neighborhood stairs in the city. I’d recoomend considering adding local restraunts in the neighborhoods to visit. I’d assume many people who take this tour do so on a leisurly walk in the late AM or early aftetrnoon.
topping off a walk with a sandwhich or cup of coffee at a local spot could only enhance the experience. Thouhgts? I wonder how many people have visited Ikes’s place?
I think San Francisco’s hidden Stairways are quite amazing and very fun for an out of town visitor. You walk up and down and up and down and come up to some amazing views that the normal visitor to San Francisco would have discovered. Bring your camera along for sure as you will find some of the best views around.
